Here at Knife Sharp as well as sharpening all manner of knives, we also sharpen scissors. All for the same price of a knife, so feel free to include your scissors when you send in your knives to us!

We sharpen most types of scissors including general, kitchen, fabric, craft, sewing scissors as well as tailor shears just to name a few. Sadly, we don’t sharpen pinking or hair cutting scissors.

We use the same process to sharpen scissors as we do with knives, so we can ensure they will be razor sharp and ready to cut better than new once we have worked our magic on them.

Here are Knife Sharp’s top 5 interesting facts about scissors…

    1. It is estimated that basic shear scissors which were made from one piece of metal, were invented in Egypt around 1500 BC. Further modifications to the design using two pieces of metal were made by the Romans in 100 AD.
    2. Typically, scissors are made for right-handed people, as such left-handed people find them uncomfortable to use. Special left-handed scissors with the blades mirror reversed are manufactured. This makes cutting easier and neater for left-handed people. We can sharpen both left and right-handed at Knife Sharp!
    3. Scissors is one of those unusual English nouns that is both singular and plural in the same form, otherwise known plurale tantum. Scissor (without an s) is a verb. How did we distinguish between one scissors and a pile of scissors? We began calling an individual scissors a pair to emphasise the matched cutting blades.
    4. In the “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game It is impossible to gain an advantage over your opponent as it’s a game of true chance. However, by exploiting the psychological weaknesses of your opponent, it is possible to gain a significant advantage as most human players tend to be non-random.
    5. Historically, a pair of scissors should be nailed open above a front door to protect the home from witchcraft and evil spirits. This tradition has strong Christian connotations as the scissors were once hung by one loop so they would hang in the open position, like a cross.

So, there you go, next time you are at a dinner party you can wow everyone with your amazing knowledge of scissors!

    Stay Sharp!
